Three Injured in Shooting at Lufkin Apartment Complex
City of Lufkin Communications Director Jessica Pebsworth is reporting that officers with the Lufkin Police Department responded to a shooting this afternoon in northwest Lufkin.
At 1 p.m., Lufkin Police were called to the High Point Plaza Apartments (3500 block of North John Redditt Drive) to a report of two gunshot victims and a man with a gun. Officers arrived on the scene to see the man attempt to shoot again and one of the officers fired at him, striking him in the hand.
Three people, including the suspect, were taken by ambulance to local hospitals. Lufkin Police do not believe any of the injuries to be life threatening.
The incident remains under investigation.
The complex is closed to non-residents and the Texas Rangers have responded to the scene, per policy.
Unfortunately, this is yet another shooting incident that has happened across the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area. There have been numerous reports of drive-by and residential shootings that have taken place since the beginning of the year. Some of those shootings, especially the drive-by incidences, have been attributed to escalating violence and interaction between organized gangs in Lufkin and Nacogdoches.
Please keep our law enforcement personnel in your prayers as they continue to try to keep our cities safe.
Speaking of keeping our men and women in blue in your prayers, there is a prayer vigil taking place this afternoon (10/7) in the back parking lot of St. Luke's Health in Lufkin. Retired Lufkin Police Officer Randy Stallard is battling COVID-19 and the public is invited to this event to pray for his healing.
