Thanksgiving weather in East Texas can probably best be summed up by Forrest Gump, "You never know what you're going to get."

No doubt you have seen a Turkey Day or two in the Pineywoods where Mother Nature has delivered a few pellets of sleet our way.  Then, the very next year, outdoor necessities include shorts and something along the lines of an SPF 50.

Thanksgiving 2021 in Deep East Texas will bring a sure bet for rain and maybe a thunderstorm or two.  An approaching cold front is bringing cooler weather and an 80-90 percent chance of downpours ahead of it.  Let's dig down into the specifics.

Will Turkey Day Be A Complete Washout?

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to start forming ahead of the front sometime after midnight on Thursday.  The rain chances should go up to about 50% between 2 and 5 in the morning, and then up to nearly 90% as we get to sunrise.  The heaviest of the downpours is expected to occur between 6 am and noon across the Pineywoods.  By the time the afternoon arrives on Thanksgiving, the rain chances should be back down to around 40%.

So, maybe we'll get to salvage part of the afternoon.

How Strong Will The Storms Get? How Cold Is It Going To Get?

As of now, the Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma is not expecting any of the storms to reach severe limits.  Heavy downpours could bring upwards of two inches of rain in parts of our area.  The temperatures will stay near 60 for most of the afternoon on Turkey Day, but the cloud cover and gusty north winds will make it seem a little more chilly than that.  Temperatures will dip into the 30s by early Friday morning.

Will The Cowboys Win?

No.  In fact, that question has already been answered.  During his vendetta ride, Wyatt Earp wiped out many of the Cowboys who had played a part in killing one of his brothers and seriously injuring another.  I love that movie and plan on watching it over the weekend.

Now, as far as the Dallas Cowboys...they're harder to predict than the weather!
