An early Tuesday morning one-vehicle wreck is continuing to cause delays in Lufkin.  According to a report from the Jessica Pebsworth, Communications Officer with the City of Lufkin, at 4:38 a.m., officers with the Lufkin Police Department were called to a rollover accident in front of the Angelina County Farmer’s Market on Loop 287.

Apparently, a box truck carrying mail was headed north on Loop 287 towards Nacogdoches when the driver left the road for an unknown reason. The truck then rolled, coming to rest in a ditch. Mail spilled all over the roadside.

The driver managed to escape the truck by himself and was talking to persons at the accident site when emergency crews arrived. He was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated for injuries. There has been no update on the driver's condition.

So, now the task of the clean up is continuing at the location of the accident.  That not only includes getting the overturned truck removed from the area, but authorities with the Postal Service must properly collect all mail that was spilled as a result of the accident.  This task is expected to last through a good portion of the morning, so motorists are being advised to expect delays in that area of Loop 287 and just to the north of the Highway 69 South exit. Officials with the Lufkin Police Department are asking motorists, if possible, to avoid the area completely until after the clean up is over.
