How does a career in law enforcement sound to you?  More specifically, how about a job with Lufkin's finest?  Your opportunity awaits. 

The City of Lufkin will be administering Civil Service testing for possible positions with the Lufkin Police Department.  This testing will be taking place at 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center, 601 N. Second Street.

Those scoring at least a 70 on the exam will be invited back on April 6th to Lufkin's City Hall for a physical fitness exam consisting of the following:

  • 1.5 mile run completed in under 18:08
  • 300 meter sprint completed in 75 seconds or less
  • Bench press 135 pounds or 67% of body weight, whichever is lower
  • 15.6 inch vertical jump

Prospective applicants need to be at least 21 years of age.  There is no upper age limit.  Starting pay is $42,534.13/year.  Lateral transfers for experienced officers is now available with a pay range of $42,534.13 to $54,008.66 per year.

Registration deadline for upcoming exams is March 18th.  A study guide will be provided for registrants.  Civil service study sessions with Dr. Bonner will be offered March 28th - April 1st.
