Severe Weather, Heavy Rain Possible Late Friday in East Texas
A strong arctic cold front will be pushing across Deep East Texas on Saturday. That system will be firing off showers and thunderstorms across the Pineywoods and some of those storms could be severe and have heavy downpours late Friday and early Saturday.
The best chance of strong storms in our area will happen between 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday. The biggest severe weather threat should come from the possibility of hail. Gusty winds may also be associated with some of the storms but the current forecast shows no anticipated threat of tornadoes. Deep East Texas is right in the bull's eye of the possible heaviest rainfall totals. Up to two inches of rain could fall in a short period of time overnight Friday. With our current ground saturation, that could lead to isolated areas of localized flooding.
The quick moving front should bring colder temperatures for the weekend with afternoon highs on Saturday and Sunday predicted in the 40s.
