NWS Releases Details on Fatal EF-1 Nacogdoches County Tornado

Friday night's storms across Deep East Texas spawned numerous severe storms including a tornado that touched down in Nacogdoches County.  That tornado unfortunately caused the death of a 44-year-old man. (the tornado pictured above is a stock photo)

According to a Facebook Post by the Nacogdoches County Emergency Management Office, at 12:10 Saturday morning, rescue crews were called to a home on Sweat Circle, a private road off of FM 225, for a man trapped by a tree that had fallen across a home. Larry Hadnot, Jr., 44, was inside the home when a tree was blown over onto the house trapping him. Another individual was also inside the house, but escaped with minor injuries. Hadnot was pronounced dead at the scene, and an inquest was held by Justice of the Peace Pct 1 Kerry Don Williamson.

The location of the incident is near the Gravel Ridge Community.

According to a damage survey team from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport, that tornado in Nacogdoches County was rated as an EF1 tornado with top winds estimated at 100 mph. The tornado was on the ground for 3 minutes, covering a little over 2 miles in that time.  The narrative from the National Weather Service follows:

"The tornado touched down along CR-723 just south of
FM-225 where it broke several large branches in a field of trees.
The tornado headed east-northeast from there where it crossed
FM-225 and paralleled the north side of FM-225. It knocked over a
number of trees and broke several more large branches as it
continued to the east-northeast. The tornado downed a large tree
onto a mobile home along Sweat Circle, a private road off of
FM-225, where a fatality occurred along with one injury. The
tornado crossed CR-722 and Russelville Road where it did more tree
damage and minor damage to homes. The tornado continued to the
east-northeast where it crossed CR-719 and several private
properties damaging a few more trees before lifting near Floyd
Harvin Road."

The NWS in Shreveport also confirmed an EF2 tornado that touched down near Bossier City.  That tornado had top winds of 135 mph and caused two fatalities.
