School time is here.  Numerous school districts across East Texas have been welcoming back students over the last couple of weeks.  Several more schools in the Pineywoods will be having their first day of classes within the next week or so.

Nacogdoches ISD will start classes on Monday, August 23. Teachers, administrators, staff, students and parents are all hoping this school year will go much smoother than last year.  The ongoing pandemic wreaked havoc within the educational system in 2020-21.  With that as a backdrop, Nacogdoches ISD has revealed some very positive news for those NISD employees who are returning for the upcoming school year.

In a release on the district's website, it was revealed that during NISD's virtual convocation on Friday, Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Trujillo announced all staff returning to Nacogdoches ISD will receive a $2,400 stipend during the 2021-22 school year. The stipend will be distributed in two installments of $1,200 – in November and in June 2022, Trujillo said.

All district employees who were with NISD last year and returned for this school year are eligible for the stipend.

“I’m not saying our new staff aren’t as important, but after a year like we had last year I wanted to recognize the staff who’ve made a conscious decision to return to Nacogdoches ISD,” Trujillo said. “Those folks who cut the lawn, those folks who work in the cafeteria, those folks who are custodians, making sure the buildings are clean, driving the buses, the aides who are on the playgrounds and providing one-on-one instruction, and the teachers that we have, and the administrators that we have that have come back. They went through the full year of the unknown.

“Thank you for coming back to Nacogdoches ISD and because you made this decision to come back to Nacogdoches ISD the school board and myself are reaching out to you and saying ‘Thank you’ with this one-time incentive.”
