Lufkin Police Arrest Woman for Hotel Bathroom Mischief
Wednesday night, an East Texas woman was arrested and charged with criminal trespass after setting a fire in a lobby bathroom trash can at Executive Inn and Suites located on Harmony Hill Drive in Lufkin.
According to a press release from the Lufkin Police Department, Maria Collins, 29, was arrested following the alleged actions. She then refused the come out of the bathroom and leave the motel after being told to do so by motel staff. An employee told an officer that Collins had been in the bathroom 30-40 minutes before the fire.
Inside the bathroom, officers found a small fire of paper towels in the middle of the floor and a plastic trash can 3/4 of the way burned, smoldering in a toilet.
An officer also noticed a charred gallon of cleaning fluid which appeared to have been used in an attempt to extinguish the fire. When asked why she started the fire, Collins told an officer she asked the lady in the lobby to call police because things started to get suspicious but she wouldn't. Collins appeared to be intoxicated. She was arrested without incident.
