According to a release from the Lufkin Police Department, the Street Crimes Unit arrested a couple early Friday morning for allegedly dealing crack cocaine from a home near Garrett Primary. 
Street Crimes Units investigators, along with the Special Response Team, arrested Derreck Merchant, 36, and Quinita Evans, 35, after running a search warrant at 119 Booker St.

The Street Crimes Unit began an investigation into the couple’s activities after receiving complaints from concerned citizens who have children at Garrett Primary Elementary. The school is less than a block away from Merchant and Evans’ home.

A search of the home uncovered crack cocaine, money, digital scales and a rifle.
Merchant and Evans are both charged with delivery of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver in a drug-free zone and possession of drug paraphernalia-marijuana.
