Lufkin Man Arrested for Aggravated Robbery of Which Wich

According to a release from the Lufkin Police Department, at 8:49 Wednesday evening, officers responded to Which Wich at 4605 S. Medford Drive to a report of a robbery in progress. Officers arrived to find that the suspect had already left the scene.

An employee told them that when he went to take the trash out, he was met by a masked man with a pink and black pistol. The suspect followed the employee back into the store and had him empty the register and safe. The suspect then fled the scene in an older-model, white sedan that resembled a police car, according to a witness.

Surrounding agencies were notified of the incident and asked to be be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle. At 9:08 p.m. an Angelina County Sheriff's Office deputy reported seeing a white Mercury Grand Marquis leaving the South Loop Crossing area. The deputy provided a license plate for the vehicle. A short time later, another deputy confirmed that the vehicle had returned to its registered address in the 300 block of Whippoorwill Drive.

By 9:11 p.m., officers had surrounded the home and contact was made with the homeowner. Four people were there at the time, including 19-year-old Daryus Wooten. Officers were given permission to search the home.  In Wooten’s bedroom, they found clothing that matched clothing worn during the robbery, a pink and black pistol and the money from the restaurant.

Wooten was taken into custody at 9:23 p.m. on a charge of aggravated robbery. He remains in the Angelina County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation.
