Locally-owned Subway restaurants in the Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Tyler and Longview area partnered with Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls® from August 1st to August 31st to provide shoes to children across the globe. Subway customers throughout the area added a dollar amount to their purchase to support the program.

Stores raised $4,064.82 for the organization. A Longview-based franchisee matched the contribution in honor of a tenured employee who is an alumna of the Buckner Children’s Home, founded in 1879 in Dallas. On Wednesday, January 18th, Subway representatives presented a check for $8,129.64 to Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls at the Buckner Center for Humanitarian Aid in Mesquite, Texas. (photo above)

Subway Franchisee Doris Wallace notes, “It has been an absolute honor for our local Subway shops to help support the amazing work Buckner does here in East Texas and around the world. Buckner serves children and families in the same communities our neighborhood shops are in. Subway is always looking for ways to support our local communities so partnering with Buckner to raise money for the Shoes for Orphan Souls program was a natural fit.”

The director of Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls thanks Subway, "We are so grateful to Subway and our partner communities in East Texas for their generous support of Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls. It's incredibly special to us that additional funds were given in honor of a Buckner alumna. We know that long-term change in community’s starts one person at a time, and we're so proud of this individual and her success," said Rachel Wallis, director of Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls. "Each dollar raised in this campaign will go to provide shoes for vulnerable children, and we hope to hear even more success stories in the future thanks to this effort."
