Lufkin Woman Dies After Reported Accidental Shooting
According to a press release, the Lufkin Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a woman which occurred early Sunday morning.
Lufkin Police report that at 5:10 a.m. today (Sunday, July 18), officers responded to a call to the 100 block of Deer Trace Circle to a report of a female gunshot victim. Deer Trace Circle is located off of HIghway 58 (South Chestnut Drive), near the Brentwood Drive turnoff.
Lufkin Paramedics arrived on the scene and located the woman inside her bedroom. They transported her by ambulance to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Upon further investigation and questioning, it was determined that the woman's boyfriend was at her residence at the time of the incident. The boyfriend told Lufkin Police Officers that shooting was accidental. According to detectives with the Lufkin Police Department, the shooting remains under investigation.
The deceased woman's name was yet to be released. Authorities with the Lufkin Police Department plan on releasing the woman's name on Monday, July 19 to allow for the notification of her extended family.
