The Catch Lufkin Will Open Soon, Let’s Go Inside & Get the Scoop
A few years ago I was in Tyler visiting a friend and he took me to a restaurant called The Catch. I was blown away by the extensive menu that included everything from snow crab legs to oysters to gumbo and a wide array of fried, grilled and blackened dishes.
I wish I could have had one of everything, but I just went basic and had the catfish and shrimp basket. IT WAS FANTASTIC!! Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity to go back. That's why my ears perked up several months ago when I heard that The Catch would be opening in the old 'Pie Five' location at 4415 South Medford in Lufkin, that's next door to Ulta.
At first I heard a November opening was scheduled, and then December, but still the doors remained closed. So I decided to ask the management of the restaurant for all the details. I was able to contact Scott Nordon, owner of The Catch and creator of the concept.
Nordon along with his business partner, Robert Means, are the driving force of The Catch. The Catch is a family-owned business based in Tyler. They opened their first one in Tyler in November 2016 and their second in Longview 2017. Nordon has a culinary background and over 30 years of restaurant experience. The Catch is being opened with their managing partner, Manny Callejas. Nordon and Callejas have opened more than 8 different restaurants in the last 5 years
The Catch is basically coastal seafood. You'll notice it's a melting pot of Cajun and Louisiana influences, but mainly the food selection and preparation is influenced from all the coastal states.
As far as their menu selections go, get ready to take a while to go through it all...and it's all so tasty, but do make it a point to try their gumbo. It is absolutely amazing.
Their menu items include red beans and rice, cheese grits, fried green tomatoes, fried shrimp and oysters, fried crawfish, boiled crawfish (in season), homemade banana pudding, key lime pie, fried pickles, and I would be here typing for days, so here's a link to look at their menu.
According to Nordon, the premise for The Catch is simple - Great food made right, great guest service and a clean, friendly environment. He goes on to say that Lufkin is seen as a growing market full of good folks who are very warm and welcoming, and that's why his team decided to open up a store here.
For now, the timeline is to open The Catch Lufkin during the first week of January. If all goes to plan, they plan to start hiring in the next week or two. We will pass along on our KICKS Facebook Page when the hiring process starts. When a firm date is set for the grand opening, we'll be sure to pass that along as well.
