Lufkin Cowboy Rides for 96 Points in Mutton Bustin’ Competition

Night number one of the Angelina Benefit Rodeo is in the books, and what a night it was. Some of the best cowboys in the world were matched up with top-notch stock, and that usually leads to outstanding scores.

It wasn't just the adults who were racking up the big point totals on Wednesday.  The young cowboys and cowgirls participating in the mutton bustin' competition brought their 'A game' to the rodeo.  Four riders scored 90+ points on their sheep.

Easton Bower of Lufkin had a 92-point ride, Braxton Rhoden of Apple Springs scored a 93, Dahlia Padron of Diboll had a scorching 95-point ride, but it was the final rider of the evening, Preston Thomason of Lufkin, who ended up edging the competition with a stellar 96-point ride.

The Angelina Benefit Rodeo continues through Saturday night at the George H. Henderson, Jr., Expo Center in Lufkin. Gates open at 6 and the show begins at 7.  Here's a look at the mutton bustin' riders scheduled to compete Thursday through Saturday, plus some photos from the night number one riders.
