Texas Forest Officials are confirming that aerial views of the Polk/Trinity county fires, show  more than 18,200 acres are destroyed . Officials say the blaze is about 40% contained, and is now considered to be the largest wildfire in East Texas history. Trinity County Judge, Doug Page, believes the fire started from a trailer being towed on FM 354 in Polk County, saying  an overheated wheel bearing is to blame.

The Texas Forest Service is also fighting two fires in Jasper County. One covers about 400 acres along Gist Road, and the second covers 3,500 acres and is threatening more than 500 homes on Lake Sam Rayburn.

The weather forecast for East Texas calls for partly cloudy sky's, with highs in the mid-ninety's. The best chance for rain this week is Tuesday, but there is still a very high fire danger.
