Well, that didn't take long.

After the record setting Spring rains, all of the counties of the Piney Woods are now officially under burn bans.

Weeks of no rainfall and temperatures consistently over 100 will definitely do that.  Nacogoches and Polk counties today became the last in Deep East Texas to declare burn bans.  So far, 103 counties in Texas have declared burn bans and this number is sure to go up.  This means no outdoor burning is allowed until official word from the respective county judges reverses those bans.  That usually happens when significant rain falls over the course of a 2-4 week period.

In the meantime, just make sure that you're being extra careful when it comes to fire safety.  Obviously, no outdoor burning, but also use common sense---don't park a running vehicle over a grassy area, don't throw cigarette butts out the window, etc...

We still have plenty of Summer left, however, the forecast does show a bit of a cool down and a slight chance of showers over the next week.
