The "4th of July" Fireworks in Nacogdoches are technically on Saturday, July 3rd for 2021. I could give you lots of made up reasons this is happening, but here is the truth.

The issue is finding a company that puts on this type of fireworks displays, and that is available on July 4th, and how much they charge. It really is that plain and simple.

The current company that will put on the fireworks at Freedom Fest in Nacogdoches is MPA Fireworks, LLC based in Tyler. Not only do they put on displays, but they also sell consumer fireworks.

We could be much further down their list. In 2019 they had a show on Wednesday, July 3rd in Gilmer, Texas. On the 4th of July in 2019 they put on 3 shows at the same time. These were held in Kilgore, Henderson, and Athens, TX. Then there was another on Friday July 5th, 2019 in Gladewater.

There are just only so many of these companies to go around. The reason that Lufkin has no issue putting on their fireworks on Sunday July 4th, is because the staff at Mike Love and Associates took the time to become certified to fire them themselves. They also have to store and transport them, which is a huge undertaking.

There is not keep the 4th on the 4th movement like keeping the Christ in Christmas. Anytime between July 2nd - 4th are of enough historical importance to celebrate.

On Tuesday July 2nd, 1776 the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence. Then on Thursday July 4th, 1776 the delegates from all 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence. July 3rd, must have been a pretty big party, but it was a Wednesday in 1776.

Having one display on a Saturday in Nacogdoches, then the one in Lufkin on Sunday, gives area residents the opportunity to go so two pretty amazing fireworks shows.

Have a great weekend celebrating our nation's independence in either or both city. I am just thankful that the Nacogdoches Jaycees and Badders Law Firm freely give this event to the public for us to enjoy.
