Texas Family Sues After Doctor Gives 4-Year-Old Boy Accidental Vasectomy
A Fort Bend County, Texas family has filed a lawsuit after doctors at the Texas Children’s Hospital accidentally performed a partial vasectomy on their 4-year-old son.
Snip Snip...Oops
What should have been a fairly routine surgery turned out to be a shocker for the family of a 4-year-old Fort Bend County boy. The family took their son to Texas Children's Hospital for a surgical procedure to help with his hernia problem, but something went very wrong.
According to KPRC 2 Investigates, Dr. Susan L. Jarosz performed the laparoscopic surgery in August and ended up cutting the wrong tube, giving the young kid a partial vasectomy.
Read that again - she ended up giving a 4-year-old child a vasectomy.
The boy's parents were understandably in shock upon finding out the news and have since filed a $1 million lawsuit against both Texas Children's and Dr. Jarosz.
Lawsuit Filed
Randy Sorrels with the Sorrels Law Firm said,.
So, the doctor went in laparoscopically, which means not an open incision, and doing it on a 2-D model, on television, failed to identify exactly what she was cutting and cut the wrong tube.
The lawsuit claims that Dr. Jarosz “breached the standard of care by failing to exercise ordinary care while performing hernia repair surgery on the little boy”. As a result the boy mill more than likely face:
- future medical expenses
- future pain
- mental anguish
- future disfigurement
- physical impairment
- future expenses for fertility treatments
What Did Texas Children's Hospital Have To Say?
Well, not much.
Hospital administrators issued a statement to KPRC 2 Investigates, saying,
Texas Children’s Hospital’s top priority is the health and well-being of our patients. Due to patient privacy requirements, we are unable to comment.
Whole lotta nothin'.
All I can say is that Dr. Jarosz better have some good malpractice insurance.
