Ted Cruz Goes Maskless in the Senate and People Are Triggered

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is making headlines again, this time for not wearing a mask while on the Senate floor. Ted Cruz isn't a fan of wearing a mask and we've known it for a while. Back in July, he was photographed on an airplane sitting without his mask on although Cruz said he was drinking coffee which is why his mask was off, per Time.

Then in March Senator Cruz was speaking during a press conference and was asked by a reporter if he would mind putting a mask on and he refused. Cruz told the reporters, including CBS Austin:

"Yeah, when I'm talking to the TV camera, I'm not going to wear a mask.All of us have been immunized."

When the reporter continued to press the subject, saying it would make them feel more comfortable, Cruz told him he was welcome to step away. Now CNN has a story of how Senator Ted Cruz has joined Senator Rand Paul by going maskless within the Senate. And some people are not happy with that decision.

When asked by the news outlet about his decision to not wear a mask in the Senate, Senator Cruz responded saying he's been vaccinated and "everybody working in the Senate has been vaccinated." According to CNN, there are many staff members who have not been vaccinated yet. Cruz also pointed to CDC guidelines that said people who are vaccinated can gather maskless in small groups.

According to the CDC guidance on masks from April 2nd, fully vaccinated people can "visit with other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing" but goes on that people should "take precautions in public like wearing a well-fitted mask and physical distancing." Being in public would include the Senate, where the Senator works.

While there are many upset that Cruz has decided to go maskless while on the Senate floor, he isn't breaking any rules. Currently, there are no mask requirement for the Senate according to the Washington Post.
