This summer break is ready to get off to a flying start (literally) June 8-10 at the A.L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport just outside Nacogdoches.

4 States Youth Flyers is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation that is operated by its founder Carl A. Bandy, Sr. The foundation's main goal is to raise funds with the express purpose of providing first flights to young people ages 8-18.

Usually, those first flights take place at airports in and around the ArkLaTex, where 4 States Youth Flyers is based, however, thanks to the generosity of Clyde Partin Monument Company in Cushing, Alto, Lufkin, and Nacogdoches, these free flights are being offered of a first-come, first-served basis at the Nacogdoches Airport June 8, 9 and 10.

Not only is this a great opportunity for kids between the ages of 8-18 to experience the exhilaration of flying, but this will also give many a chance to see the Nacogdoches area from a viewpoint they've never seen before.

Details, man...I need details

  • The flights will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on June 8-10 at the A.L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport located off Highway 7 just west of Nacogdoches.
  • Children and adults will be able to fly for free in a four-seat single-engine airplane.
  • Youth ages 8-18 will receive a pre-flight demonstration, flying certificate, and logbook.  In addition, they will have online access to a free Private Pilot's course.

How do I sign up?

To schedule your flight email carl@4statesyouthflyers.org, or call Carl at (630)417-4000. As of this posting, there were still quite a few openings available, but those are expected to fill up quickly.
