Texas motorists are getting a small break in gasoline prices heading into Christmas and New Year's. Triple A Texas says gasoline prices are down an average of four cents across the state, and even more in some areas.

So it's not costing quite as much to travel over the river and through the woods to Grandma's house -- and back.

The weekly gasoline price and availability survey from Triple A Texas shows  Texas has some of the cheapest gasoline in the country. The average price at the pump is $3.05 per gallon.  This is well below the national average of $3.21 per gallon.

The highest average price is $3.07 a gallon in Texarkana.  El Paso has the cheapest gasoline, at an average $2.95 per gallon.

The association says retail gasoline prices are at their lowest levels since February, and it's because crude oil prices are also down.

AAA predicts nearly seven million Texans -- about one in four -- will be on the highways driving somewhere over the holiday period that runs from Friday December 23rd through January 2nd.
