Fastest-Growing County in the US is in Texas
One look around Texas at all the construction and it's easy to guess that Texas is a fast-growing state. It's the second-largest in population now, and one Texas county beats all the others in the nation for the number of people who are moving to it.
Harris County near Houston collected 89,000 new residents between 2013 and 2014, and that's better than any place in the US. If you're like me and you're from a small, rural area in Nebraska that has more cows and cornfields than it does people, it's hard to fathom 89,000 new people at all, let alone all those new people in one year.
When it comes to state populations, California has almost 38-million people and it's number 1, and then Texas is the second most-populated state with 27 million. The orange construction cones are evidence that the population is growing. Both the Houston and Dallas metro areas added more than 130,000 people between 2013 and 2014.
Of the major metro areas in the US, Texas has Austin, Houston, and San Antonio on the list of the top five fastest growers.
Maybe someone should tell all of these people how hot it gets in the summer time. This ain't San Diego. But then again, San Diego costs a lot more than Texas does, and maybe people are figuring out that homes are affordable, there's no state income tax in Texas, and there's plenty to do. Oh, and the food is great too. In other words, there's no sign that the population growth will slow down anytime soon.
