Donation Drop Boxes Go Up For Local Animal Shelter In Lufkin, TX

The Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter is always in need of items for its day-to-day operations. They usually reach out to people in the community and they are more than willing to give.

Recently they asked for large blankets for their larger dogs, and I remember seeing so many stacked up in a storage room shortly after we put together a story about it. The things they have asked for turned into a mission for a local Girl Scout Troop.

They have started putting out these donation bins at various locations to help with the collection of these items. One has been spotted at the Crown Of Thorns Nursery at 4659 US Hwy 69 North in Lufkin.

There Is A List Of Items On The Bins That KMAS Needs

I have used Crown Of Thorns Nursery in the past for plants and shrubs around my house. It's always interesting to go by and see what they have.

They are such nice people, and now you have another reason to stop by and look at all of the plants. You could go there and drop off one of the following items in the bin:

Cat Litter
Cat Food
Dog Food
Kitten Food
Puppy Food
Bleach
Dish Soap
Clorox Wipes
Brooms & Dust Pans
Dog Toys
Cat Toys
Disinfectant Spray
Laundry Detergent
Paper Towels
Small Blankets
Towels

Local Girl Scout Troop Is Repurposing Recycling Bins To Help Animal Shelter

I was really glad to see that they had ironically recycled City Of Lufkin recycling bins for this project. Once our recycling program was changed to curbside with no bin, I was wondering what this surplus would be used for. This is one of those uses.

The city is also using them as just regular trash bins for new residences. This is a win for the animals and a great use for these old bins. You might see them popping up in more convenient places to drop off these items in the near future.
