Lufkin Police Provide Update on Wednesday’s Shooting at Sonic
According to a media release from the Lufkin Police Department, a murder warrant was filed overnight in connection to a shooting at Sonic on West Frank Avenue.
Ishmael Muhammad, 20, of Corrigan, is charged with the shooting death of 21-year-old Zetavius Robins, of Lufkin.
Muhammad allegedly shot Robins following a brief verbal encounter in the Sonic parking lot around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. According to Lufkin Police, Robins was shot while attempting to leave the restaurant in his vehicle. After being wounded, he crashed his car into a building across the street. Robins was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he later died.
A passenger in Robins’ vehicle, 21-year-old Kiera Allen, of Lufkin, was also wounded in the incident. She was flown to an out-of-town hospital where she remains in stable condition. She is expected to recover.
Muhammad was taken into custody a short time later following a traffic stop by a Department of Public Safety trooper. The trooper heard radio traffic describing the suspect vehicle and made the stop on Lotus Lane.
It was initially believed there may have been a second suspect in Robins’ death. However, Muhammad was identified as the lone shooter in the murder.
In addition to murder, Muhammad is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carry of a weapon. He remains in the Angelina County Jail.
