In the wake of our local Walmart being unexpectedly closed for 40 hours, some of you may be feeling the pressure of figuring out alternative grocery shopping locales.

Nacogdoches has the Kroger chain that Lufkin doesn’t; however, it is SFA dorm opening weekend. More people from out of town, plus a longer drive from Lufkin may not be the answer.

All those out of town parents moving kids into the dorm will be at the Walmart Supercenter in Nacogdoches as well.

Shopping Alternatives

How about hitting up our one of our many Brookshire Brothers, HEB, or La Michoacana? You might find some product brands that you missed or weren’t aware of, while also supporting a more local business.

You might also find that these smaller stores, while possibly busier because of Walmart being temporarily closed, might be a quicker stop due to their smaller store size.

I’m always proud to say that I’m an East Texan, born and raised, and when unexpected things happen we always seem to pull together and show the gumption, kindness, and respect that I was brought up learning.

Other Ideas

Plant a garden with your kids as a backup for next time. Try out a new-to-you business or go by the Farmer’s Market. We’ve got this Lufkin.

You could also have a meal at a local restaurant and support a local business that way. I hear there is a new restaurant in the Lufkin Mall parking lot.

Hopefully you have enough ideas here to get your weekend grocery shopping done. It will be a banner week for Lufkin Brookshire Brothers locations.
