The 2021 Do Dat BBQ Is Cancelled And It’s Not What You Think
The Do Dat BBQ is a huge tradition in Nacogdoches. This year that tradition was set to get a different location.
This would have been the first year that the event was held at the Al Mangham Regional Airport. In the past it was held at the Nacogdoches County Exposition and Civic Center.
Today we received this press release via facebook:
ANNOUNCEMENT: We will be postponing the Do Dat BBQ until April 30th 2022. We ran into anissue with getting approval from TXDot and the FAA after we were put on their radar. Our team consisting of theCommittee, Airport, City, & County has put in a lot of effort to try and push the approval through, however, federal regulationsare going to make it impossible to have Do Dat BBQ this year. We would like to thank our sponsors, teams, and vendors for your support. We hope that you will participate in Do Dat BBQ 2022. We could not have made it this far without you.
When they said they were going to move the Do Dat, someone responded "When Pigs Fly" and I guess they were right. It's almost like the poster was foreshadowing the events that were to come.
This was a very unexpected cancellation for all of us here at the station. Everyone involved is proud of the effort put in to make it happen again, but alas it was not meant to be.
There are many events that will be making a come back this year, but the Do Dat BBQ will not be among them. All proceeds were to benefit the Nacogdoches Area United Way.
Past Winners
Last year like many events it went virtual.
Results for the Virtual Do Dat were announced on May 3rd, 2020. If you weren't paying attention last year, you can check out their facebook here for all the entries and posts.
