A speed study was conducted on roads in Nacogdoches and the speed limit is being lowered on Highway 21. Find out exactly where, and how much slower we'll have to go, here.

Starting on Wednesday (weather permitting), road crews will be out posting new lowered speed limit signs along SH 21 in Nacogdoches. The changes will take place on the eastern portion of Highway 21 from its intersection with University Drive to just outside Loop 224, and will apply to traffic moving both east and westbound.

From University Drive to the Highway 7 split near Lamar Street, the speed limit is being lowered from 50 miles per hour to 40. From Lamar Street to just outside of Loop 224, the speed limit is being lowered from 55 to 50 miles per hour.

These changes are being made as a result of a recent speed study that showed lowered speeds would increase safety along the highly-trafficked Highway 21, and have the support of the Nacogdoches City Council.

As long as the weather cooperates, crews will begin installing the new speed limit signs on Wednesday, June 4. The new speed limits go into affect as soon as the signs are installed, so be aware of the changes.

Drive safe!
