Yes, you read that correctly.  No specifics were given as to the type of axe.  I don't think it was one of those smaller hatchets given the degree and severity of the injury.  Nor was there any explanation reported for what may have caused the 6' 1", 220 man to allegedly wield the axe as a weapon in the first place. Perhaps, more details about this incident will be released at a later date.

Here's what we do know according to the report from the Lufkin Police Department. Late Monday night (6/13), just before midnight, Lufkin Police Officers responded to the 500 block of East Laurel Avenue, near the intersection of Atkinson Drive. When officers arrived, they located an injured man who was bleeding from a deep gash in his hip.

The victim explained to officers that Charles Olford had "chopped" him with an axe. Lufkin Police were able to locate Olford a short time later and he was arrested and taken into custody.  He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Thankfully, he is expected to recover.

Other incidents reported by the Lufkin Police include the theft of copper wire and tools from a business in the 600 block of Pershing Avenue in Lufkin. Just a few blocks away, the theft of a pistol was reported in the 500 block of Trout Avenue, which intersects with Pershing.
