It's happening in Tyler and Longview.  About 75 contract employees who help people who are out of work will be unemployed by the end of September.

The 75 people are employees of ResCare Workforce Services, a contractor that provides workers for East Texas Workforce Solutions - a division of the Texas Workforce Commission.

ResCare employees handle requests for unemployment, help East Texans find jobs and provide worker re-training in Gregg and Smith counties.  The positions that will be lost range from case managers and clerical support to accounting specialists and top managers.

If there is any good news in this, it's that the layoffs have nothing to do with the economy. The Workforce Commission says this is happening because ResCare has lost its contract to provide those services.

An official with the East Texas Council of Governments says the new contractor is Dynamic Workforce Solutions, a division of Kaiser Group.

The new contractor is expected to begin hiring soon, and officials expect many of the laid off ResCare employees will be hired.

The irony is stunning. People whose job is to help other people get jobs are going to be looking for jobs themselves.
