The three boys and three girls were born a few weeks premature Monday at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where their doctors say all six -- and their tired mother -- are in stable condition and doing fine.

The infants ranged in weight from 1 pound, 10 ounces to 2 pounds, 15 ounces. They are currently in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Their mother -- Lauren Perkins -- had been getting fertility treatments for a year and a half before she got pregnant last summer.

As common as multiple births seem to be these days, statistics show that on average, only one set of sextuplets is born each year in the United States.
