East Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert says the war in Afghanistan is going so badly for the United States that the Obama administration is preparing to abandon the country and leave it at the mercy of a resurgent Taliban.

In an interview with Lou Dobbs on Fox Business, Gohmert, R-Tyler, praised the CIA-led killing of American-born Al-Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awalki, but he believes things are going in the wrong direction under Obama.

“You’ve got to understand, this administration has been negotiating indirectly, and now directly, with the Taliban to get us out of there,” Gohmert said.

Gohmert said administration reports that the Taliban is dead in Afghanistan are not true.  He believes the oppressive and reactionary regime will return to power quickly when the United States leaves.

“They’re going to take back over the country,” Gohmert said, and “they’re going to kill all the people that helped us.

Gohmert says instead of leaving Afghanistan to that fate, he thinks the U.S. should withdraw combat troops, and return to its original and successful strategy of using air power and sending intelligence forces to support anti-Taliban Afghan fighters.
