An efficiency consultant has found nearly $600,000 in annual expenses he thinks the Lufkin School District could eliminate with no serious impact on the district's mission.  He presented his findings to the Lufkin School Board Tuesday.

Greg Gibson, of Gibson Consulting Group in Austin, spent three days in Lufkin reviewing four areas of the district’s budget:  custodial services, food services, overtime and the clerical staff at Lufkin High School.

At the board’s monthly finance meeting, Gibson presented a number of  recommendations for overall savings, but he said it is up to the board to decide what action would be taken.

Gibson's suggestions range from raising the price of school lunches to cutting the size of the clerical staff at Lufkin High School, to reducing overtime pay for custodial employees and changing some custodial jobs from full-time to part-time.

LISD Superintendent Roy Knight says no decisions have been made on any of the recommendations.

The next regular School Board meeting is 6 p.m. Thursday at the LISD administration building in Cotton Square.
