Clash of The Titans, Part Two – Timpson vs Shiner in Epic Battle

To steal a phrase from the baseball great Yogi Berra, "It's deja vu all over again."

Last year in the Class 2A Football Playoffs, the undefeated Timpson Bears faced off against the undefeated Shiner Comanches with the winner assured a date in the following week's state championship game.  The game was played at Randall Reed Stadium on the campus of New Caney ISD.

Shiner left no doubt in that game why they would be the eventual state champs.  The Comanches raced to a 35-0 halftime lead and then coasted to a 49-7 victory.  Still, it was an historic season for the Bears as they set a school record with 14 wins in a season.

Now, we fast forward 52 weeks and we're back in familiar territory.

The Class 2A, Division 1 state semi-final game showcasing the undefeated Timpson Bears and undefeated Shiner Comanches will take place this Thursday evening, December 9 in Tomball.  The winner advances to the state championship game to take on the winner of the Hawley/Marlin contest. A strong argument could be made that the winner of the Shiner/Timpson game will be a heavy favorite to win it all.

Shiner is a beast.  They haven't lost a game in over two years.  The Comanches have won 40 out of their last 41 games.  Shiner has outscored their opponents by a total of 682-108 through 14 games.  That includes a 55-14 whoopin' of an outstanding Refugio squad last week.  In that game, junior running back Dalton Brooks rushed for 384 yards while his older brother, Doug, rushed for 187 yards.

Meanwhile, through 12 games, Timpson has outscored their opponents 663-154.  The Bears most impressive victories on the season have been a 42-21 victory over the undefeated Beckville Bearcats two weeks ago and a 49-28 beat down of Waskom, who has advanced to the state semifinal game in Class 2A, Division 2.

Shiner will come into this game as favorites to win, but if any team can pull off the upset, it's the Bears.  This will be an epic game.
