The Bandera County Sheriff has resigned.  He had to, to avoid going to prison for misuse of county property.

In a plea bargain with prosecutors, Bandera County Sheriff Weldon Tucker avoided a possible prison sentence by resigning and pleading guilty to one felony count of abuse of official capacity for misusing the county's rescue boat for his own personal recreation.

The charge was filed after Tucker was seen taking the boat to a local reservoir and later storing it at his home.  When confronted he denied the allegation.

If the case had gone to trial Tucker could have gotten  up to two years in prison if convicted.  Instead, the judge put Tucker on probation for two years, and ordered him to pay $2,500 in restitution and fines.

Clearly, people in Bandera County don't put up with public officials who don't obey the laws they expect everyone else to follow.
