The 2-alarm fire broke out around 6 AM today at the Goslin Nix Stables at Superior Road and FM 1488 in Magnolia.  The flames spread and quickly gutted the 5,000 square foot stable .

Neighbors and fire crews got into the burning building to open some interior stalls and were able to free some of the horses.,

Fire officials say 13 of the 28 Arabian horses stabled in the barn died.  One horse hasn't been accounted for.  Some of the surviving 14 horses suffered burns and smoke inhalation and they're now being treated by a veterinarian.

The owners say these are prize show and breeding horses valued at between $60,000 and $100,000 each.

Raising and breeding horses is a multi-million dollar industry in Texas.  There are hundreds of stables and ranches that breed and sell horses of all kinds, including Arabians, Quarter Horses, thoroughbred show horses and even draft horses.
