Would you ever eat dill pickle-flavored ice cream?

Help us decide who wins this friendly little ice cream competition between Texas and the rest of mankind.  The East Coast is coming up with some doozies of new flavors, and we're thinking Blue Bell might still rule over all.

Pickle-flavored soft serve has popped up at one ice cream store in New York City.  It's a hard one to wrap our heads around because ice cream is supposed to be sweet and pickles are so not.  But sometimes in these cases of weird foods, instead of asking why, it's best just to file it away in the "because they can" file, and not put too much thought into it.  Pickle ice cream might taste really good after some New York street pizza.

While we're on the subject of oddball ice creams, there's a spot in New Jersey that's come up with ham-flavored ice cream.  Suddenly, the pickle one sounds pretty awesome.  Ewww!  The amount of salt in ham seems to cancel out any hope of making a great ice cream flavor, but maybe I shouldn't knock it until I try it.   It's ham and french toast in a cone, and it may be the perfect blend of sweet and salty.  Or not.

Bring on the Blue Bell!  We love our ice cream-making friends in Brenham, and we always look forward to those hot summer afternoons when some Dutch Chocolate drips stain our clothes.

Blue Bell flavors to look forward to this summer:

Cookie Two Step -- Vanilla ice cream with hints of brown sugar, combined with chunks of chocolate crème-filled cookies and tasty chocolate chip cookie dough pieces.

Moo-llennium Crunch -- Vanilla ice cream with a combination of dark chocolate chunks, creamy caramel chunks, roasted pecans, chopped almonds and walnut pieces.

Rocky Road --  Dark chocolate ice cream sprinkled with chopped, roasted almonds and miniature marshmallows.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Dough  -- Milk Chocolate Ice Cream combined with peanut butter cookie dough pieces and milk chocolate chunks.

Ice Cream Cone --  Vanilla ice cream loaded with dark chocolate-coated cone pieces, chopped roasted peanuts, all surrounded by a rich chocolate sundae sauce swirl.

Banana Split Sundae  -- Banana ice cream mixed with crushed pineapples, maraschino cherries and chopped roasted almonds, with swirls of strawberry and chocolate sundae sauces.

And those are just some of the Texas-produced flavors that skip the pickles and ham and make us really happy.  We like sweet chunks in Texas, and we can always count on Blue Bell for lots of 'em.

Maybe we'll try spinning out some pickle ice cream in the homemade mixer out in the backyard this summer by the grill just to see what it's like.  And if it doesn't turn out, well, we'll just head to the freezer for the backup supply of Blue Bell.
