If you weren't aware, today there was an official groundbreaking ceremony held on the south side of Nacogdoches to celebrate the "beginning" of the work on the US 59 flyover, the start of the I-69 project.

Here's the video from NEDCO, the Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation from the ceremony this morning:

As you can see, this project is becoming a reality. So, what does that mean for Nacogdoches?

Well, first of all, it means that you're going to need to be patient. This is a project that is estimated to take a few years to complete. And during that time, there will be a lot of different changes that will be taking place such as increased traffic, different speed zones, etc. This project will be good for our area, but it's not going to be an immediate complete project, so you'll need to practice your patience.

Also, it means that you'll need to be careful and watchful in this construction area. It goes hand-in-hand with what I just said, but it probably needs to be restated anyway. There will be changes in speed limits due to the construction zones, there will be more traffic due to construction workers and vehicles, and there will be just as many people making their commute through the area, so please be careful.

And finally, the last thing that it means for Nacogdoches, is that this is an exciting time for Nac. The interstate that's coming through is poised to bring more people, more jobs, and other things through Nac, and that's exciting. So, as we watch this project take shape, be excited.
