I'm a car guy. This isn't meant to be an ad. Just let me rant a little.

The all new Silverado is finally here. I watched the unveiling  at the Detroit Autoshow, way back in January, with amazement.  In East Texas, the truck you drive, is more important than what boots you are wearing. If you are looking to be the first one on the block to have that new new, this is it. Just like when they changed the body of the current Mustang, Camry, and Ram Trucks, it is a marvel of new technology, sculpture, and design.  You might say I am a little biased, my daily driver is a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado.

We are seeing all kinds of amenities in trucks from Dodge, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, and Chevrolet. Ventilated seats, are pretty much the best thing since a slip differential. All these luxuries being added, show how much they mean to the truck buying public. The evolution of trucks to what they are now, the modern equivalent of the big American family car, was at best unforeseen. In the past we used these low optioned work horses to drive to work, run to the store, pick up the mail. There were also lots of trips to the gas station. Now they are luxurious, becoming more eco friendly, and higher priced than ever.

One guy in a truck, it's a statement. I'm not getting in the carpool lane. More importantly in Deep East Texas, what is a carpool lane? Going anywhere you want to go, and getting back, is important to us.  You never know when you might need a truck. You might need a lifted truck to respond to an emergency flood, like what happened in Houston, with Hurricane Harvey. You might need to move a friend, or heaven forbid, yourself. The versatility is there, if you should ever need it. These are the things truck guys tell themselves, when secretly we just think they look really cool.
