So much for individualism, expressing yourself or whatever you want to call it, but one school district in North Texas has decided that the clothes your wear to school will determine how successful you'll be in the future. As you can imagine, there are a lot of students upset at the ISD's decision to enforce the new dress code for the upcoming school year.
School Dress Code
School dress codes are nothing new. There are schools that set the dress code for their students all over the country. Forney Independent School District in North Texas has decided to do the same and will enforce a new dress code that will not allow students to wear what the district deems as "unprofessional."
Here's the "Back for the Future" video the district released earlier this month.
The idea is to prepare students for the future workforce.
New Dress Code
Clothing and hairstyle will now be set by school officials and includes all students grade 5 and above. Forney ISD released their new dress code online. Among the clothes being restricted include hoodies, dresses, overalls, denim jeans, zippered shirts or blouses and T-shirts. Unnatural hair color and grooming is also required.
The new dress code allows students to wear solid colored shirts and slacks, shorts or capri pants must be in navy blue, black or khaki colors.
Petition
Naturally many students and parents feel the new dress code is too strict. A petition was started to fight the new guidelines and now has more than 4,000 names on it.
Will the petition actually change the minds of the school officials?
Could Central Texas school districts be headed for a more strict dress code?
Are you for or against a dress code in your child's school?
