Super Sweaty Christmas This Saturday In Lufkin, Texas
Put down the hot chocolate and break out the iced tea this Christmas in Deep East Texas. It's a good thing Santa comes at night or he would have to wring out his stocking cap.
After a brief cold snap earlier in the week we are preparing for what will be one of the stuffiest Christmas Days on record. To put that in perspective we only need to look at last year.
The high temperature was a mere 59 degrees with a low of 30 degrees. That lines up with the historical average temperature for Christmas Day in East Texas of 59.6 degrees
Is this the hottest Christmas ever?
If all goes as forecasted this Saturday Christmas day will be sunny and reach a high of 81 degrees. That seems hot, but it's not the record. The record is 86 degrees.
So if you think Christmas Day is sweaty this year, it has been slightly hotter in the past. It has also been much, much colder.
The lowest temperature on record is 8 degrees. That brings back bad memories of winter storm temperatures from last year, and though I wish it wasn't so hot, I'm also glad it's not that cold.
Get outside and enjoy that spring-like weather this Christmas
This will be one of the hottest Christmases in recent memory. The last time it was nearly this warm at Christmas was in 2015 when it was 80 degrees.
I will choose to look on the bright side of things and think of all those kids getting a new bike on Christmas Day. I will imagine all of them riding around in shorts on their street just loving life.
