I did a story about the house behind the trees at 1608 South First Street in Lufkin back in February. Many listeners had great stories about the former owners and their pet peacocks.

This is the property right across from Domino's and Grease Monkey with the low stone wall. Sadly last night around 9 pm a good samaritan was driving past and noticed a fire.

The trees and foliage have made it hard to see back there again, just like every year. If this had been during the day, it might not have been spotted.

The House Behind The Trees Damaged By Fire Nearby In Lufkin, Texas

The caller noticed flames above the treetops at the property Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022. The home is very close to the fire station, so firefighters arrived quickly to find a secondary structure behind the main home fully engulfed.

The firefighters fought the fire for more than an hour before it was officially under control at 10:23 pm. No one was at the home, and no injuries were reported at the scene.

The Lufkin Police Department responded to help with traffic control, and South First Street was down to one lane as they fought the fire.
