One of the things in Deep East Texas that makes me realize that Christmas is right around the corner is seeing Rudolph The Red-Nosed Pumping Unit. Every year, I'd see that bright red pumping unit being put up and decorated. Even when it was moved from it's tradition spot in front of the Lufkin Mall to Downtown Lufkin, I was still excited to see it being put up.

Well, today in Downtown Lufkin, I saw it happening once again. This is what I saw:

The lighting of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Pumping Unit will take place on Saturday, December 5th at 6:00 PM. There will be all sorts of other events leading up to the traditional lighting that day, including shopping, live performances, Zumba and more. There will even be a chance to get photos with Santa that day, inside the Pines Theater.

As we get closer to Christmas, all of this greatness downtown gets even more exciting. Today was just the beginning of the festivities, as they begin to assemble Rudolph!

Are you as excited as I am about Rudolph being set up? Do you have memories of the the lighting of the pumping unit in Lufkin? Maybe it's a tradition to take the whole family and attend the ceremony? Let us know in the comment section below!
