Remember These? My Stroll Through University Mall [PICTURES]
The other day, I was walking through the University Mall in Nacogdoches. Now, many of the stores that I can remember being open are now closed. They've either been replaced by stores, or just closed in general.
As I walked through, I snapped a few pictures.
I saw stores like JC Penney, which has now been replaced by a bargain outlet. However, if you're on the inside of the mall, you still see remnants of the original store. This is what I saw:
I saw the former space for Waldenbooks, where I used to buy new comics and books. Here's what's left there:
I also saw what used to be the Peanut Shack. Memories of Coca-cola ICEEs, sweets, and popcorn all came to mind.
I remember Payless being in the mall, because it wasn't that long ago that it shut down. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't another shoe store right next to it? Here's a couple of shots of those stores:
Then, there was the jewelry store - I want to say Gordon's Jewelers - that was on the corner as you came into the main intersection of the mall. Since it closed, it's housed a couple of small stores, but nothing as of right now.
And there were others as well. I personally remember the Foot Locker where I would go shop for basketball shoes. There was also a store where Decades is now located. I think it was something along the lines of TJ Maxx or Burke's Outlet, but I can't be certain. There was also a Claire's store, but it has since closed as well.
As we made the loop around the mall, I was able to snap one more picture. It was the old entrance to Bealls, which was the main anchor store of the University Mall. This is what I saw:
What other stores do you guys remember in Nacogdoches that have either changed or just gone away? Maybe they weren't in the mall. Maybe they were somewhere else in town. Let us know in the comments below.
