This morning, officials with the Lufkin Police Department released details concerning yesterday’s discovery of a man found dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The man’s name was also made public for the first time.    Here is the official release from the Lufkin Police Department:

LPD officers responded to the parking lot of the veteran clinic located in the 2200 block of N. John Redditt Dr. in Lufkin following a report that a clinic security employee had discovered a possibly deceased male inside a vehicle in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers found a white male inside a silver 2006 Ford Taurus and noted blood inside the vehicle that appeared to have come from the male’s abdominal area. Lufkin Fire Department personnel on the scene did not detected signs of life from the male. LPD detectives responded to the scene and later determined the deceased male to be William Clark Kreger (White / Male / 09/04/1944 / 103 Lake Drive, Lufkin). Detectives located a handgun within the vehicle and preliminary information indicates that Mr. Kerger had a single injury to his upper abdominal area consistent with a gunshot wound. Detectives did not find signs of foul play but, as with any equivocal death, will investigate the case as they would a homicide. Angelina County Justice of the Peace Billy Ball ordered an autopsy be performed. The determination of the cause and manner of death is pending the results of the autopsy and the conclusion of the investigation.
