Detectives with the Lufkin Police Department have been looking for leads and canvassing the area in hopes of finding a surveillance camera that may have taken video of the vehicle involved in the incident.

The Department’s investigation has led to a vehicle of interest – a white SUV – as pictured in these video stills from a nearby business around the time of the accident – around 10:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Pershing Avenue.

The hit and run incident claimed the life of 14-year-old Gracie Massey.  Massey and two other juveniles were walking west on Pershing Avenue in the center turn lane when a vehicle approached them from behind also traveling west. The juveniles told officers that because the vehicle was in the turn lane, they believed it was going to slow down and turn before reaching them.
