Corrigan Man Leads Multi-Agency Chase In Lufkin

A chase on Tuesday afternoon led officers from the Lufkin Police Department, Angelina County DPS, and the Angelina County Sheriff's Office on a high-speed chase in Lufkin.

The multi-agency chase started on Denman Avenue and continued through Fuller Springs. You might have seen the teal car with many officers streaming behind it. Bret Dakota Scroggins, 28, of Corrigan, was wanted for running from LPD last week after giving a false name.

He was located by an officer near the old Lazy Oaks apartments off Denman Avenue. He fled in a vehicle when officers attempted to make contact with him.

Scroggin's was in the Fuller Springs area when he crashed through a gate, which ended up on top of his old teal Honda two-door Civic. Once in the pasture off Benton Drive, he fled on foot.

He was taken down just off US Hwy 69 near Biloxi Creek after running for a mile through the woods, according to a Facebook post by the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.

You can see in the photo of his apprehension that there is a DPS officer on his right and an Angelina County Sheriff Officer on his left with two Lufkin officers right behind.

He racked up seven charges with a collective bond amount of $41,000. They included two third-degree felonies for evading arrest with a vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

I need to take a second to say that this is the most interdepartmental cooperation I believe Lufkin has had since the 1980s. You can't outrun the radio is a true statement then and now, and working together, they seem invincible.
