Shoes left behind in Lufkin led to a local K9 officer sniffing out the perpetrator. According to a report by the Lufkin Police from the Lufkin Daily News on Friday, August 23, 2024 an officer responded to a suspicious person on the porch of a home on August Lane.

The caller told dispatchers that the person was walking from the home toward January Lane. An officer found Jamarlon Reagan, 33, in the area and he fit the description given by the complainant.

When the officer asked him what he had been doing at the home, he answered and said his girlfriend had texted him the wrong address per the report. A second officer arrived and they both noticed the smell of marijuana.

Reagan Runs Out Of His Shoes Leaving The Perfect Trail

The officers both questioned him about the smell, and Reagan produced a small baggy of a green leafy substance. One of the officers asked him to put his belongings on the hood of his patrol vehicle.

He questioned Reagan further about what else illegal he might have in his possession. As Reagan was being handcuffed he broke free of the officer and a foot chase began.

The pursuit continued until officers caught up with him again at the Great Oaks Apartments. Reagan jumped a fence and the officers lost sight of him.

Meanwhile Back At The Patrol Car

A quick search of the Gucci shoulder bag left at the patrol car revealed a handgun. An officer who chased him found a pair of white shoes that had come off of Reagan's feet as he ran away from the officers.

Lufkin Police set up a parameter and called for a K9 officer from the Diboll Police Department to assist in the capture. The K9 handler presented the shoe to the officer and it tracked him from the complex to the 200 block of Hummingbird where he was found and taken into custody.
