Study: July 4th Parades Are Right-Wing, and Democratic Politicians Should Avoid Them
Did you know that if you enjoy 4th of July parades you're probably a Republican? That's what a new study from Harvard University says. Really.
The Harvard study shows July 4th parades energize only Republicans, turn kids into Republicans, and help to boost the GOP turnout of adults on Election Day.
The report says "Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation's political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican Party."
The study's authors say Republicans consider themselves more patriotic than Democrats, and Fourth of July celebrations serve only to socialize children into becoming Republicans."
This study also suggests that Democrats have nothing to gain from July 4th parades, so it's probably a waste of time for Democratic political candidates to be in them.
And we thought the 4th of July is for all Americans, no matter what political party they're in. What were we thinking?
