Free Tax Prep for Low Income Taxpayers
The federal income tax season has reached the home stretch. Taxpayers have only two more weeks to file their tax returns before the deadline of April 17th, and for the fifth year, Lufkin Goodwill is providing free income tax preparation assistance.
Goodwill of Lufkin's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) office has a staff of trained volunteers ready to provide free tax preparation for taxpayers who earn less than $50,000 a year.
Goodwill says the Lufkin VITA program, which is only one of four such programs in the United States, is just an extension of Goodwill's mission.

Officials say you don't have to live in Lufkin or even Angelina County to get this free service. They say it's available to anyone, regardless of where they live, as long as they meet the income guidelines.
