Free Child Seat Check Ups Coming to Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Crockett
Did you know that about 3 out of every 4 child safety seats are installed incorrectly. According to statistics with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), around 70% of child safety seats are not completely strapped in correctly. This can drastically increase the likelihood of serious injury or death in the case of vehicle accidents.
When my kids were younger, I employed a sure-fire way to make sure our child safety seats were properly installed...I let my wife do it. I consider myself a pretty decent handyman, and I can follow a set of instructions pretty well, but something about running the straps in the proper locations and attaching clips in the correct places just didn't go very well for me.
There are three free events coming up on July 19-21 in our area that will make ensure you're child safety seat is properly installed. On Monday, July 19, the free inspection will be held at Denman Avenue Baptist Church in Lufkin, on Tuesday, July 20, it will be held at the Nacogdoches Civic Center, and then Wednesday, July 21, the free inspection will be held at the Crockett Civic Center. The times for all inspection events will be from 4pm-6pm.
Trained experts will meticulously take a look at your child safety seat(s) and then make the necessary adjustments. Seats found to be damaged, expired, and/or inappropriate for age/weight/height or on recall are replaced at no cost to the family! Children must be present to qualify. It's a great way to make sure your child is riding safely as you're travelling down the road. Plus, you get the education of knowing how to install them properly in the future.
If at all possible, please bring your children so that specific adjustments can be made. Whether you are able to bring them or not, please make sure you bring information that has their correct height and weight. The event is being put on the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension - Passenger Safety - KidSafe Initiatives and the Texas Department of Transportation.
